Hi. Some of you may not know that my family is from the small island of Trinidad and Tobago. If you go to this link you can get information about these two islands. http://www.gotrinidadandtobago.com/
I am not from Trinidad. I am not even from North Carolina. I came to North Carolina in a futile effort to escape my parents. I am a first generation American.
My parents are from Trinidad. My aunts and uncles are from Trinidad. I still have some family in Trinidad.
Between you and me I think someone forgot to tell them when the plane was leaving.
Almost everyone from Trinidad goes into the medical field when they come to America. You can find a good job in medicine. I tried to go into the medical field because that is what everyone expected but chemistry and most of the sciences kicked my butt.
Then I came up with the brilliant idea of going into teaching. I do not like teaching. I like kids but not teaching. I did not pass the test and so, I got a job with the school system.
I lost my job for reasons I do not think is right to talk about. My truth and their truth probably do not mesh. Well I loved my job and would like to find a similar job. Wish me luck.
Writing on this blog helps me cope with it all.
Any way back to Trinidad. My parents have the view that I need to keep a better house. It should always be clean and well kept. MS should not slow me down in anyway. The fact that I am 37 years old with 3 children should not slow me down.
They are right of course. They are always right.
Nothing should slow me down. I get help from my kids and husband. I do appreciate it. I learned that I do have to ask for help.
Then I think about the fact that I may not be here one day. I pray that I am. I just put more time into my kids. I enjoy every minute with them. A dish may not get washed but I get to see my kids play and smile with each other. I get to have great sex with my husband. One day I will get a job and be able to make the life of my employer a little easier.
Their idea that a woman should keep the house and have pride in how well she keeps the house is a bit old school.
Trinidad is a beautiful country. My parents make it a point to visit on a regular basis now that they are retired. It is the greatest 3-6 months of my year.
